Photography has forced me to look at life in a different way. I’ve learned that life should be viewed in many perspectives, just as you should photograph your subject in several vantage points. I really struggled with photography when I first started. I struggled with the idea that photography can be anything you want. I was so used to receiving an objective and figuring out how to achieve it. In photography, there’s no set objective. You might be given a few requirements, but the whole project is based on your creativity. One technique that appeals to me is creating and/or emphasizing shadow. I love how shadow creates a dramatic mood. Richard Avedon has had a tremendous influence on me. I love his techniques when he photographed models. In my opinion, he’s a master photographer because he was able to fulfill the objective, which was to have the model and her clothing stand out, and at the same time, used his creativity to put his mark on the photographs and the fashion world.

As a junior, my goals are to finalize the list of colleges I plan to apply to. Also, after a stressful year, I want to spend my summer enjoying life and to use what I’ve learned in photography: to appreciate every little thing in life.
